This Grandma Makes A Difference In 375 Lives With Her Summer Lunch Program!

This Grandma not only cares about her own, but also 375 other kids! Students who rely on free lunches during the school year can run out of luck when school's out; Phyllis Shaughnessy was determined to bridge this gap.

She started Green Lantern Lunches, where she hand packs, with help, 375 lunches a day and delivers them to food insecure families. Due to the high demand of lunches needed in the summer months (for the children who normally rely on the free/reduced lunches at school), the Green Lantern Lunch Program is packing/delivering more than 375 lunches every day, Monday-Friday. Stocked with more than 375 sack lunches a day and a core of volunteers to help pack them, the great-grandma to 15 grandchildren stepped up last summer in leading the program to deliver 16,919 meals!

Phyllis gets the items from Coastal Harvest, the supplier for the local food banks and accepts monetary donations to cover the cost of the food. She estimates that the program will have delivered around 20,000 lunches during this summer and will only grow in numbers in the future. Wow, she certainly is a GREAT grandmother!
