Listening to and singing Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" often raised Caly Bevier's spirits over the years as she battled ovarian cancer, but it rose to new heights when she performed it at the annual Overcome Gala in Houston, Texas.
Caly, now 18, was attending as a recipient of the Ovarcome Excellence Award for 2018 in recognition of her efforts raising awareness and being a fearless advocate for those with this disease. Since this type of cancer typically effects older women. Runsi Sen, Founder and President of Overcome, recognizes the importance of Caly's efforts. "As a young cancer survivor, she has a strong, compelling message to give out to the world."
When it came time to receive her award, Caly invited all the survivors present to come up and join her on the stage. "When I sang Fight Song, and all the other survivors were out there with me", she recalled, "it was really beautiful. I really felt everyone's energy, it was pure love. I loved it!"
Caly's boyfriend Sam took it all in with amazement, but has become familiar with her friend's strength under all sorts of circumstances. "She's always super positive no matter what gets thrown at her."
Since first being diagnosed at 15, Caly has shown she can handle almost anything. After battling through the ups and downs of recovery, she earned opportunities to jump start her music career on America's Got Talent and the Ellen Show. She is currently working with a music management company in Los Angeles with the goal of releasing her own music.
While her career continues to evolve, she remain determined to do all she can to support the ovarian cancer community. "I love knowing that I impact people's lives in all different ways." Her hard work is inspiring people… you only needed to look at the faces on the stage with her to know that she's making a difference.
