This Program Is Creatively Saving Animals Lives. Here's How You Can Help Too.

Last year, The Petco Foundation and The Jackson Galaxy Foundation teamed up to create the Innovation Showdown to give animal welfare professionals the opportunity to pitch their most innovative lifesaving ideas. This year, you have the opportunity to do the same... and win up to $350,000.

The 2018 Innovation Showdown is a collaborative project with a goal to spark lifesaving creativity to help the animal welfare industry reduce the number of animals euthanized in this country. Modeled after Shark Tank, the Innovation Showdown is designed to spark lifesaving creativity in the animal welfare community.

The Petco Foundation, along with top animal welfare organizations, has officially launched the 2018 Innovation Showdown and is now accepting submissions online for a chance to win up to $350,000 investment for innovative ideas to save animal lives.

"The Innovation Showdown aspires to encourage ideas that will change the landscape of animal welfare," said Susanne Kogut, the Petco Foundation Executive Director. "All of the participating national organizations share the same goal -- to end needless euthanasia of animals in this country. By joining forces in this year's Showdown, we can make a meaningful impact with a more significant investment pool and feedback from the industry's experts to debate the lifesaving potential of each new idea."

Participating organizations, in addition to the Petco Foundation, include; the ASPCA, Best Friends Animal Society, The Humane Society of the United States, The Jackson Galaxy Project, Maddie's Fund®, Michelson Found Animals Foundation, and the WaterShed Animal Fund.

Last year nearly 200 idea submissions were received and two winners, the Animal Care Centers of NYC for their digital shelter concept ($100,000) and Brandywine Valley SPCA for "Mama in a Box" a kitten feeding solution ($50,000), took home the top two honors. One Woman's Touching Project To End The Stigma Around Anxiety & Depression

"The best way I have always put it is: If you wake up in the morning, and you have cancer and you don't feel well, you can call into work and say 'Hey, I have cancer, I don't feel well,' and everyone understands. You are told to rest and not worry. Now, try to call into work and say, 'My anxiety is so bad. I can't do this today.' In that case, you are told to get it together and get to work. How is that possible? How are these two conditions, which are both life threatening, treated so differently?"

Tennis Program Helps Low Income Teens Develop Resilience On and Off the Court

Leaders of the Junior Tennis Champion Center (JTCC) recognized this cost challenge, and decided to do something to change it. In 2009, JTCC launched a Community Outreach initiative, with the goal of introducing underserved kids in Prince George's County, MD, and Washington, DC to tennis.
