Twin Sisters Share Food and Friendship with Those in Need – A Little Joy and Judy E1

Identical twin sisters Joy Paoletti and Judy Vig grew up in a large Italian family, and delicious home-cooked meals were the centerpiece of their upbringing. As adults, they went on to make a career out of their love for cooking. Joy and Judy wrote cookbooks, appeared on various shows on The Food Network and were well on their way to becoming big names as TV chefs. But in September 2012, their lives changed forever.

Judy was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. Devastated but determined, the sisters jumped into action mode. Judy underwent four months of chemo therapy and six weeks of radiation. She quickly learned that chemo therapy would require her to keep a much stricter and healthier diet. But Judy still craved the decadent Italian dishes she'd grown up enjoying. That's when the sisters had an idea— they would recreate their family recipes using healthier ingredients. Take a classic dish like Fettuccini Alfredo— Joy and Judy replaced pasta, cream and butter with zucchini ribbons and low-fat yogurt. The recipes they reinvented were delicious, and they just knew they had to share them with others.

Then the sisters had another inspired idea. "When you're sick, when you've lost somebody, when you're going through a tough time", Joy explained, "people like to bring food. It's healing, it's comforting." Judy described how important this was during her chemo treatment. "My friends cooked for me because I wasn't able to do anything and I still had to feed my family. People were so kind and wonderful." The girls concluded that with the combination of their cooking skills and their own experience of overcoming adversity, they might be on to something important. Judy sums it up this way - "I think it's time for me and Joy to go out, and spread a little Joy and Judy!"

This thought is the inspiration for this new, uplifting series, where Judy and Joy deliver their home-cooked meals to people going through hard times. People in the Connecticut area will nominate their loved ones who are in need of some TLC. Joy and Judy will whip up the nominee's favorite meal— adding their own unique and healthy twist— and show up to their home with a delicious surprise. But it doesn't end there! The sisters will learn more about the nominee's story and have a thoughtful discussion about overcoming hardships by citing their own personal struggles and how they overcame them. The series is a combination of great food and positive energy— something the world desperately needs right now.
